Extract Stator Winding Heat From High-Purity Media

CHALLENGE

Obtain low-maintenance, dependable cooling of large (to 2000 MVA) turbogenerator stator bars. The stator windings are cooled by water flowing within stainless steel tubes embedded in the Roebel (stator) bars.

SOLUTION

Tranter SUPERMAX® Shell And Plate Heat Exchangers can be used in isolation circuits to minimize the risk of contaminating the high-purity, deionized water cooling circuit with cooling media

RESULTS

  • Easy cleaning of the low-purity cooling media channel.
  • Higher resistance to leakage than square-plate, block-type heat exchangers or shell and tube heat exchangers.
  • Small footprint.
  • Large turbogenerators including those found in nuclear generating stations) use a combination of hydrogen and deionized water cooling.

Tranter SUPERMAX® Shell And Plate Heat Exchangers in isolation circuits remove heat from the deionized water media used to cool generator stator windings.
