Compact Skid-Mounted Exchanger For Improved Propane Recovery

CHALLENGE

Reduce chilling temperature to condense more propane and heavier components from sales gas without changing the refrigeration compression and equipment to operate under vacuum; accomplish this in a minimal footprint.

SOLUTION

Modeling showed that adding a SUPERCHANGER Shell And Plate exchanger downstream of the chiller could reduce gas temperature to improve the propane recovery from 3 to 5% and lower the GHV of the sales gas.

RESULTS

  • Installing a SUPERMAX Shell And Plate exchanger improved propane recovery by 13%.
  • Reduction of the sales gas GHV by 2%, to contractual levels.
  • The extra exchanger had a footprint of only 0.5 m2 (5 ft2), well within the required maximum available footprint of 1 m2 (10 ft2).

This Tranter SUPERMAX Shell And Plate Heat Exchanger, with a footprint of only 0.5 m2 (5 ft2), improved propane recovery by 13% without additional refrigeration.
