Welded Heat Exchanger Withstands Organic Attack In Injection Molding Processes

Tranter Welded Plate Heat Exchangers have enhanced process uptime in resin cooling and heating for an injection-molded sink manufacturer. The customer found that organic attack by mineral-filled resin compounds limited the suitability of its two gasketed HE units at high pressures and temperatures. One unit cools resin following compounding from acrylic monomer and ethylene glycol. The second heats the resin to 50°C (122°F) using a thermal fluid.

After installing two Tranter Welded Heat Exchangers, the customer has enjoyed years of trouble-free resin heating and cooling performance.

Standing Up To Aggressive Conditions In Used Oil Recycling

Tranter Shell & Plate Heat Exchangers manufactured in Hastelloy C276 have succeeded where Inconel units could not in the treatment and recycling of used oil. Part of the waste oil refining process involves treatment with a potassium hydroxide at high temperature. Following treatment, the exchangers cool the oil from more than 200°C (392°F) to 120°C (248°F). The previously used Inconel exchanger could not survive the corrosive attack of the highly caustic oil under treatment at the elevated temperatures. With its high efficiency and small weight and footprint, the Hastelloy C276 Tranter Shell & Plate unit was a more cost-effective alternative than the previous heat exchanger technology used.
