It takes an enormous amount of thermal energy to convert iron ore,
aluminium, copper and other metals into finished bars, sheets, tubes,
etc.
A lot of this heat is dissipated as hot air, flue gases and steam. A large amount is also absorbed by buildings, equipment, hardening oils, quenching water and other fluids. They all need cooling.
